Being from a different country, Skype has been a part of our life since we arrived. We use it all the time to communicate with our friends and relatives back in Mexico. Been able to see them at the same time is awesome, my wife's sister had a baby 2 months ago and she sees him all the time and is aware of every minor change he has had since he was born thanks to Skype. The baby even recognizes her voice already. Technology is indeed a bleesing.
Talking about the classroom, the obvious use of Skype for me is to find students in Mexico learning English and hook them up with my own students learning Spanish. The experiences both groups can get are very interesting!
I completely understand how important Skype type of video conference can be when it come to family living in the foreign country. I to have family that my family and I communicate with on Skype. Its great to see their faces light up as they see our faces.
ReplyDeleteSo do I! I Skype with my friends & relatives in Asia, and whenever my boyfriend is out of town for work, it is so nice to be able to hear his voice and see his face through Skype. I think using Skype to be "talk" pals in Mexico is a great idea. I think there is a site where you list the languages you speak and the ones you want to learn, and you can set up times to video chat with someone who knows the language you want to learn. Conversational foreign language learning at its best! :) - Rachelle
