Thing10

Being an old timer, I do not like the idea of being tied to the internet to do things. I am always thinking that something can go wrong and that for some reason I won't have internet access and I won't be able to work in my documents whenever I want to. I know that having files (and now, applications) online makes life a lot easier; but I also know that if for some reason the internet is not working or is too slow or is simply not there, having your own software on a computer and your files on a flash drive can save your day. In short, use the internet's advantages but always have a backup.

Having said that, the ability to just turn on a computer, loggin in to the internet and start writing documents is amazing by itself; but being able to save your work in the cloud and work later on a different computer in a different city is just mind boggling. If on top of that you also publish your work directly into a blog or a wiki, then I am at a loss for words. I just do not know where we will be getting to in the next few years. This document was created in Zoho Writer and posted to Blogger from there. Amazing.

  1. I know exactly what you are saying. I sometimes wonder how much farther we can go with technology. It is amazing that we can just hop from place to place without any flashdrives...

  2. You know I'm a fan of dropbox (I think I've said it a few times) but you are exactly right about not having the internet. I would be in trouble if for some reason the internet went down. I have a few documents on my personal lap top and quite a few on my h-drive at work, but I don't carry them around on a stick because I am so scared of losing it or breaking it.

  3. I have had a few mishaps where the lesson did not go the way it was supposed to due to technology not working. There is always a "what if" factor, and because of that I am paranoid. I always save my documents at three different places, one on dropbox (thanks Hailey), the other on my computer and finally on a slash drive.

  4. I am very curious to find out what a "Slash drive" is. Is it somekind of weapon? like our mexican machete? I would love to have a machete-drive, I am sure it would keep all viruses and trojans out of the way!
